PJ Fancher (HostingAdvice.com): Web Hosting Hub is good for sites that will function well on shared hosting in the short- and long-term. Their lack of dedicated and VPS options can make scaling an issue. That being said, they are adequate for small sites that don’t plan on seeing tens of… Go to full review »
Several years ago, I was helping a client migrate their website over to WP Engine, as they’d recently started using WordPress and wanted a hosting solution that was optimised for WordPress. Not only was moving the site to WP Engine one of the easiest migrations I’ve ever seen, but WP Engine’s support were incredible.

Unlimited is a popular buzzword that many shared hosting services use to describe their bandwidth and storage limitations; however, there actually are limits. Your bandwidth and storage aren’t constrained unless you exceed what the company deems regular use, as defined in its terms of service. However, these limits are usually more clearly defined for higher-end web hosting services, such as cloud, VPS and dedicated hosting.
Ryan Frankel (HostingAdvice.com): JustHost has a lot of free extras that come with their services, making them a good, moderately-priced shared host. Their website is easy to use and clean. Their web administration panel is designed in the same vein and it makes using JustHost a pleasure when… Go to full review »
If that’s the case, why do more expensive options exist? Why doesn’t Amazon get in on that action and host its website on a plan that costs just a couple o’ bucks a month? For those with mission-critical websites, how do you ensure that you’re getting a reliable web hosting provider?
At first, I was really impressed that WP Engine had a built-in content delivery network. As we have a paid account with CloudFlare, I was looking forward to moving our CDN under the same roof as our hosting with WP Engine.
WordPress hosting prices are all over the map. Entry-level plans will cost roughly the same as shared web hosting, but higher-tier plans can scale upward to around $60 per month. The upside? Your WordPress installation should run more smoothly in a WordPress environment than in a traditional hosting environment. In addition, going the managed WordPress route may save you money in the long run, as it might save you the cost of hiring a system administrator to perform the same tasks. This can be particularly beneficial to small businesses.
“We successfully migrated 10% of our 30 million email account base to the DreamHost Cloud platform, representing a massive 40% of the company’s revenue. It’s staggering to see the impact this had on our business in terms of TCO and scalability.”

How is Pantheon not on this list. Not only is their workflow a lifesaver for development, but the platform itself is lightning fast and their support is good. I can use wp-cli, they include New Relic, and I get a nice report of any errors on the dashboard. Do it.
Liquid Web is another excellent managed WordPress hosting company popular among WordPress community. They offer multiple levels of hosting plans including managed WordPress hosting, VPS, cloud sites, and dedicated hosting.
A Virtual Private Server (VPS) is a great in-between solution for sites that are too big or resource-heavy to really work well on a shared hosting account but that maybe don’t justify having their own server.
This is likely due to the fact that InMotion uses state-of-the-art hardware (such as SSD storage) on all of their plans, giving them a speed advantage over some other web hosting companies that are still using older / slower hardware.
As noted above, because of a DNS propagation issue we actually made a mistake with one of our tests so we ran Site5 through the gamut again, and again they did very well. While their minimum response time was higher than initially reported, their max response time was lower than we initially reported. Throughout the majority of the ten minute load testing, Site5’s server response time stayed steady at 750ms to 1 second with only a handful of deviations.
What happens at the end of the term? You want to find out if the contract automatically renews at the regular or discounted rate when your term expires. You should also learn what the cancellation procedure entails. For example, will you be charged any fees for closing your account at the end of the term or for migrating your data to a new hosting company? Are there early cancellation fees if you exit your contract before the term expires?
Make sure, however, that your host allows you to choose which datacenter hosts your website. There are some providers with datacenters around the world, but unless you can choose to host your site in a specific location, this feature is of little use to you.
This looks to be one of those change the dates on the title posts, but nonetheless, shared hosting today is not like it was in the past. There are bigger and badder plugins, IO rates need to be increased, you need more cores, people need to be able to handle driving traffic and not have to worry about downtime. I created a solution to handle a majority of these issues (within reason as some limits need to be imposed) but the typical limits of today are solely driven by the amount of people a host wants to cram on one server. If you design the hosting to work for the people, you won’t have to worry about it working for your pocket.
Many web hosting providers, such as GoDaddy & One.com are also domain name registrars so that you can kill two birds with one stone — when purchase your web hosting package, you can also purchase a domain name.
In my opinion, I would not worry about the difference between a web host offering 99.93% uptime and one with 99.95%. As long as you choose a reputable web host with uptime in this ballpark, you’ll be in safe hands.

Users don’t need much technical knowledge or expertise. The company does offer email support and ticket support, even for its least expensive plans. We did take a point off for the relatively short 14-day money-back guarantee and a slight price increase after the initial promotional period ends. That said, you can certainly set up a small, free site and get a feel for the service, with absolutely no time limit to check things out.

First, the disappointing news. Of the 22 companies we emailed, only six responded. (Five others sent us automatic emails that promised to address our questions “soon.” We’re still waiting.) We give kudos to 3Essentials Hosting, FastComet, GlowHost, HostPapa, MDD Hosting, and TMD Hosting for bucking the trend. All six responded within 16 hours, although usually with bare-bones, one-line answers. GlowHost and HostPapa took it to the next level, writing thorough responses to each of our questions. Our GlowHost rep took the time to explain, for example, why we might not need a dedicated IP address, or how private registration works.
